Climate Change is a 'wicked' problem. It is 'wicked' from an intractibility sense. Like many other issues such as poverty, equitable healthcare, unemployement and terrorism, it seems, the more we try to 'fix' a situation, the more it seems to persist, and with ever greater strength.
Moreover, it's effects can be far removed both in time and space from its causes.
When it comes to wicked problems, we cannot rely on conventional methods of thinking - namely, the purely scientific method. We require a whole new process of understanding. We need a whole new approach to thinking - one that places an emphasis on the relationships between entities in a given system. We call this Systems Thinking.
