Overview

In this live online workshop, led by University lecturer, novelist and short story publisher Katy Darby, you will understand what makes an effective short story, how to build a character, outline a plot, and use description in a way that will absorb your reader. You will also learn about the market for short stories and ways to publish your own short fiction.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you'll learn:
- How to come up with a short story idea, and outline a plot;
- How to describe and evoke character and setting;
- How and where to submit your short fiction for publication

Katy is a University Lecturer in Creative writing, author, editor and publisher. She is Module Leader on the MA in Creative Writing & Publishing at City, University of London.

She is co-founder and Director of the award-winning live fiction event Liars' League.
